Blacksburg Refugee Partnership provides help and hope for refugees rebuilding their lives in southwest Virginia

Globally, 26 million people have been forced to flee countries torn apart by war, violence, and tragedy. They’ve had to abandon their homes. So we welcome them to ours, in Blacksburg, Virginia.

Blacksburg Refugee Partnership is an organization run entirely by community volunteers who, like you, believe all humans have the right to a safe, peaceful, happy home. We connect displaced families to the resources and ongoing support they need to successfully plant roots here in America.

With no overhead or administration costs, all of your contributions to Blacksburg Refugee Partnership directly help refugee families thrive in southwest Virginia.

So far we’ve helped 21 adults and 19 children from Syria, Afghanistan, Burundi, and Somalia settle into new apartments, find work, learn English, enroll in school, navigate public transportation, receive medical care, even earn a driver’s license and join a soccer league. Read about some of our families’ journeys and what BRP does to help in the Roanoke Times.

Dedicated BRP volunteers teach, tutor, mentor, play, translate, drive, coach, and celebrate. Whatever time you have to contribute, there is a way for you to help.

Volunteer with Blacksburg Refugee Partnership.

We’re indebted to our organizational partners, including our major benefactor, The Secular Society, whose continued financial support has allowed BRP to care for five single mothers and their children from Afghanistan, Somalia, and Burundi. In fall 2021, the Secular Society introduced the TSS Scholars program, a new college scholarship that will fully fund higher education for seven female refugees.

In 2021, in the wake of the Taliban takeover of Aghanistan, Blacksburg Refugee Partnership welcomed several new families to Blacksburg. We need your help to create a home for them.
